Newthorpe / Heanor Sewage Treatment Works

Newthorpe / Heanor Sewage Treatment Works – A Major Infrastructure Achievement

We are proud to showcase our recent work at Newthorpe Sewage Treatment Works (STW), an essential project designed to enhance wastewater management for the region, including handling flows from Heanor.

Project Scope

Our construction efforts involved a comprehensive range of installations to modernize and improve the facility’s efficiency. Key elements of the project included:

  • Inlet Works featuring screens, grit classifiers, grit detritors, organics pumps, and compactors
  • 4-lane Activated Sludge Process (ASP) extending 100 meters in length
  • Blowers (3No) to support aeration processes
  • Anoxic & Anaerobic Tanks for biological treatment
  • RAS & SAS Pumping Stations for sludge recycling and waste removal
  • SAS Holding Tanks ensuring effective sludge storage
  • Tertiary Treatment Plant for advanced filtration and purification
  • TSR Feed Pumps (3x 145kW) providing critical pumping capacity
  • Works Return Pumping Station and Final Settlement Tanks for wastewater treatment refinement
  • Scum Returns Pumping Station for improved waste processing
  • Gravity Belt Thickeners optimizing sludge thickening
  • Wash Water Booster Set to enhance operational efficiency
  • Polymer Dosing Pumps & Make-up Equipment for chemical treatment processes
  • Extension of Existing Fibre Network, integrating the new site into the broader system
  • Ferric & Caustic Dosing to aid in water purification
  • FE Monitoring Kiosk ensuring compliance with environmental standards
  • Site Lighting & Building Services within kiosks for safety and operational support
  • Trace Heating to protect equipment in colder conditions

Project Execution

Our work commenced in early September, undertaking the installation of an extensive 86,000 meters of various cables—a crucial element in ensuring seamless facility operation. With strong project management and unwavering commitment, we successfully met the Severn Trent consent date of December 2024, a testament to our dedication to delivering high-quality, on-time infrastructure solutions.
